Posted on December 2, 2011

James A. Sharrock’s retirement from public service in Hudson County lasted only a month, but he has collected three-quarters of a million dollars in pension pay from the state.

One month after retiring at age 53 as a Jersey City police lieutenant in March 2000,  Sharrock was hired as a Hudson County undersheriff.

Sharrock, now 64, pockets $173,000 a year – his $102,000 salary plus a $71,000 pension.  While drawing a county salary for the past 11 years, Sharrock has collected roughly $750,000 in retirement pay.

New Jersey Watchdog’s investigation found 44 top county cops – 16 sheriffs and 28 undersheriffs from 20 counties – who are collecting $3.25 million a year in pensions, plus their county salaries.  For full details, click here and here.
